About the Blog

The SunAWARE blog provides expert advice on sun protection based upon the principles outlined in the SunAWARE acronym. In addition, the blog serves as a vehicle for discussing issues of importance to the skin cancer community and to various segments of the general public. These issues include technological developments in the detection and prevention of skin cancer, tanning beds, vitamin D and vitamin D supplements, new and proposed federal and medical guidelines, developments of interest in other countries and many others.

As an organization, we also seek to advocate on behalf of populations we believe are underserved educationally. These include outdoor workers who are at greatest risk for skin cancers, African-Americans, Hispanics and other darker skinned people who as a group believe they are not at risk for skin cancer. We also seek to push information about skin cancer risks to young people, especially young girls and women, who may not understand the consequences of tanning.

We welcome input about these and other issues.
